I’ll be discussing my new memoir, The Adventures of Superfreak: My Childhood on the Hippie Trail (Running Wild Press, September 21, 2026), with Portland-based author Joshua Safran, author of Free Spirit: Growing Up On the Road and Off the Grid.

My memoir recounts my family’s 1970 journey from Amsterdam to India in a VW bus, beginning when I was five years old. Joshua and I had very different childhoods, but both of us grew up inside our parents’ countercultural searches for freedom and a better world. Our conversation will explore those childhoods, family mythology, disability, resilience, memory, idealism, instability, and what it means to write honestly about parents and love.
