Join us at the Hillsdale Library for an evening of poetry. Every month co-hosts Sherri Levine and Dale Champlin will bring you two or three featured poets, followed by an ever-popular open mic. Readers include celebrated poets as well as poets from the Portland poetry community and the library vicinity. Held on the fourth Wednesday of the month all year round! Poets sell their books and mingle with the audience. Light refreshments are served.

This summer Multnomah Presbyterian Church will once again be hosting a few cycling workshops for kids and families in their parking lot. These are a great opportunity to engage in our community and provide a safe space for kids to ride and work on bike-riding skills.

Last Saturdays of the month at 10:00am. Dates include: May 30, June 27, July 25 and August 29.

If you are interested in helping set up the parking lot, come at 8am on the 30th and find Clay Morgan.

The annual spring dance recital is back! Come join us for a night of celebration as we showcase students and instructors from our dance program, including tap, hip hop, ballet, and flamenco. Featuring choreography by MAC's Sebastian Adams, Sue Ceswick, Lillie Last, Kelsi Schnitter, and Beebee White.

The MAC Performing Arts departments want to invite the community to some of their quarterly end-of-term performances! All events are free and open to the public and take place in the MAC Auditorium.

MAC Youth Art Biennial 2026

Portland Parks & Recreation wants to celebrate you! Artists age 18 and under who have taken classes at the Multnomah Arts Center or been a part of our Community Engagement program in the past 2 years are invited to participate.

  • SHOW DATES: The show will be on display in MAC’s Front & Center Galleries July 3 – August 1, 2026.

  • ARTIST RECEPTION: There will be a fun reception with snacks and activities on Saturday, July 18 from 1-3 p.m.

  • All the arts are welcome here:

    • Visual Arts – drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, jewelry, short films, photography, etc

    • Literary Arts – poetry, stories, zines

    • Theatre Arts & Dance – video recordings or photos of a performance, costume designs from a play, etc.

Come learn about beautiful buraanbur and Somali culture, from the local artist and educator, Amina Abdirahman. This event will be in Soomalli and English. It is appropriate for women.

Preparedness is about Community, not Catastrophe

We are your Multnomah neighbors who will provide disaster assistance in our community when first responders such as police or fire are not immediately available. We receive training from the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management (PBEM) and the Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R). We are the Multnomah Neighborhood Emergency Team – Multnomah NET.

Our Team meetings are open to anyone who lives or works in the Multnomah Neighborhood and wishes to learn more about emergency preparedness, Multnomah NET, BEECN, and our activities.

Multnomah NET meetings are held at the SW Community Center at 7:00pm on the third Tuesday of the month. Join us to learn more!

Babysitter Training with Safety Side Up: Day 1

This Safety Side Up course provides discussion, activities and hands-on practice to increase your confidence and give you the skills you need to be the best babysitter possible. This includes safely finding and preparing for a babysitting job, caring for kids of all ages. It also includes dealing with difficult situations, preparing safe and fun activities, making safe choices and basic first aid.

This is a two-day training. To earn Babysitting Certification, participants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be 11 years or older.

  • Attend both sessions: July 9th and 10th, from 1 - 5pm each day.

  • Arrive on time, stay for the full duration, and actively take part while demonstrating the qualities of a responsible babysitter.

  • MVBA Boundaries: The designated business district is defined as an area between SW Vermont on the North boundary, Barbur Blvd on the South boundary, SW 45th Ave on the West boundary and approximately SW 24th Ave on the East boundary.

5K Fun Run in Gabriel Park

Portland Parks & Recreation's annual 5K Fun Run Series are family-friendly 5K races that take place monthly from May through August at parks throughout Portland.

$5 registration fee for participants aged 18 and older. Participants younger than 18 years old run for free! We celebrate the participation of all ages, along with athleticism and friendly competition. We welcome new walkers and runners, as well as our seasoned racers.

SW Portland Neighborhood Bike Fair

The Southwest Neighborhood Bike Fair at the Multnomah Arts Center is a free, all-ages community event hosted by the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT)!

Activities are FREE and there’s something for everyone, including:

  • Learn to ride lessons for kids and adults

  • Bike skills course to practice safe riding

  • Free Quick-fix Bike Repair to make sure your bike is rolling smoothly and safely

  • Guided community ride: a low-stress 1-2 mile ride to practice biking on city streets

  • Free helmet distribution and helmet fitting to make sure you're protected

Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes. There will be bikes of various sizes available for children and adults to borrow for the Learn to Ride lessons.

This event is hosted in partnership with the Community Cycling Center.

Portland Sunday Parkways, presented by Kaiser Permanente, will return to Southwest Portland on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Because you're part of the Southwest Portland community, we're excited to share early details and invite your organization to be part of the celebration!

  • Date/Time: Sunday, May 17, 2026 | 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

  • Route: A 2-mile multi-modal loop plus a separate 2.6-mile walking route

  • What it is: Streets are closed to cars and opened for people to walk, bike, roll, shop, and connect. This free, family-friendly community event features live entertainment, activities for all ages, local vendors, and community organizations like yours.

Traveling to and around Sunday Parkways
Streets along the route in Southwest Portland will be closed to vehicular traffic starting at 9 a.m. and continuing through 5 p.m. on May 17. Join your District 4 neighbors for a Budget Listening Session

Each listening session begins with a brief overview of the budget which helps to get oriented to the fiscal year 2026–27 process. Then City Council members will share information, their observations, and remarks about the budget, next community members who want to speak will provide up to two minutes of public comment. Those using interpretation services will have more time available.

Next, individuals who have already provided public comment at previous sessions will be called. Each speaker will have two minutes.
