National Night Out (NNO) is an annual event held across all 50 states, U.S. territories, and military bases worldwide. It provides an opportunity for community members and public safety programs to build relationships, foster trust, and strengthen partnerships.
Background
In 2026, the City of Portland will host four free National Night Out events, one in each voting district. By consolidating City resources into these shared events, community members can engage with multiple public safety partners in a unified, accessible setting. All partnerships and participation are thoughtfully aligned to ensure the space remains welcoming, respectful, and rooted in the well-being of the community.
Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with representatives from:
Portland Police Bureau (PPB), including the Behavioral Health Unit (BHU)
Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R), including Community Health Assess and Treat (CHAT)
Portland Bureau of Emergency Management (PBEM), including the Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET) and Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) programs
Portland Office of Violence Prevention (OVP), including the Safe Blocks Program and Rose City Self-Defense
Portland Street Response (PSR)
Portland Solutions, including the Public Environment Management Office (PEMO)
National Night Out is about more than meeting first responders—it's about building relationships, increasing transparency, and strengthening connections between community members and Portland's public safety systems.
