Big Wins at SW Green Dumpster Day!

When the city paused its spring cleanup days, our MNA refused to let SW Portland down! We knew that heavy transfer station fees and a lack of large vehicles left many neighbors—especially low-income families and seniors—without a way to clear out bulky waste.

Backed by a Metro Regional Refresh Grant, MNA stepped up to deliver a localized & low barrier disposal solution.

We brought the drop-off right to Portland Christian Center & the response was incredible! Supported by 40 rockstar volunteers rocking a two-shift system, we opened the gates early and served 375 cars, 6 U-Hauls, and 5 trailers with absolutely zero traffic backups.

Even better? We didn’t just dump it all in a landfill. Through incredible partnerships with groups like Community Warehouse, Anfield Metal, Green Century Recycling, Les Schwab & Bye-Bye mattress, we successfully diverted a massive 40% of all volume and weight away from the landfill and into sustainable reuse networks!

Our Green Impact:

  • 386 total vehicles fully cleared out

  • 25 Tons received, 40% of which diverted from landfill

  • 70 tires safely recycled

  • 37 mattresses kept out of landfills

By utilizing free tool libraries, a generous SOLVE Grant & the fee-free donation app Zeffy, we stretched every single grant dollar directly into waste removal infrastructure. Huge thanks to everyone who drove through, dropped off, donated, or volunteered. Together, we kept SW Portland beautiful, clean, and supported!
